These are some pictures from my trip to Jordan in March of 1995...

        Enjoy -

This is Amman, the capital of Jordan.  Built on seven hills (aren't they all).  Has an old Roman amphitheater in the center of town.

The ancient city of Jerash.  One of the best preserved Roman cities in Jordan.

The temple of Artimis.

One of the temple columns, up close and personal.  Such detail.

Beautiful mosaics from the Roman era.

The view from Mt. Nebo.  This is what Moses saw of Israel before he died.  The thin ribbon in the middle is the Jordan River.

The Madera - world famous mosaic depicting the middle east.  This portion is of the Cardo in Jerusalem, which was later  excavated and found to be accurate.

Northern Jordan.  The Israeli Golan Heights on the right and the Sea of Galilee on the top left.

Beautiful mosaics from the Roman era, these were in Amman.

The canyons leading down to Petra.

Coming into view is the Rose City of Petra.

Built by the Nabateans about 2,000 years ago.  The scale is huge.  These are about 20 stories high.

Theses buildings were carved directly into the canyons.  Most are believed to be tombs.

Such incredible detail, all hand carved.

OK, here's the required camel picture...

All these buildings are caved into the mountainside.

They are believed to be tombs of the Nabatean royalty.

A strange rock formation.                                                                   Al-Dayr, another tomb carved into the mountainside.
